Kansas City is not well credited for being Walt Disney’s proving grounds before making the beloved company we know today. Any operations made to revitalize his importance in the city has all but succeeded. The studio where he once worked is stuck in purgatory as funding for renovations fell through and the locals refuse to demolish it. The official foundation and their website have also seen no traction within the past decade.
I believe there’s an opportunity to have animation history be relevant again to Kansas City. While I do not have the funds to build a museum dedicated to Walt’s time here in the city, I can build one virtually. My project is to create an interactive timeline for which online users can visit and learn more about how Walt got his start in the animation industry. The site will behave in an engaging way, befitting of the technology available to us now versus a decade ago. The goal is for the website to be informative to the audience with the hopes it can replace any need for a foundation’s funds to be further expended.
